Haruka Yamada
Poetic Scape is pleased to present "Nocturne", the first solo exhibition by Haruka Yamada at the gallery, from 25 May (Wed) to 9 July (Sat), 2022.

Yamada has actively participated in artist-in-residence programs in Japan and abroad, meticulously researching the local environment, history, and context to produce a number of site-specific works. Having studied painting in Japan and art and spatial design in France, Yamada employs diverse media such as photography, video, painting, and installation.

Nocturne is a video work consisting of approximately 800 photographs taken by Yamada on the night of a full moon, one for each step taken, so that the moon appears to move along the silhouettes of the city's buildings. When the movement of the moon, the buildings of the city, and the artist's gaze construct an image through the mechanism of the camera, it becomes possible to simultaneously gain a personal and romantic experience, like a modern ptolemaic system, and a larger-scale perspective that looks down on the correlation between humans and the respective systems of celestial movement and urban space.

This exhibition will show a re-edited and brushed-up version of a film shot in Yokohama, which was presented at the Koganecho Bazaar 2020, with new sound added. Also a series of photo collages that seem to materialize Yamada's every step will be shown at the venue.
