Hisae Imai "Ofelia and After"

The Third Gallery Aya
Finished

Artists

Hisae Imai
Hisae Imai made her debut in the 1950s, building a literary world represented by "Ofelia and After" and attracting attention with her avant-garde images. After being blinded in a car accident, she shifted to producing works with horses as her subjects, and gradually her early works became known only to those in the know. This exhibition introduces Imai's representative early works, from his first solo exhibition "Daydream" in 1956 to "Energy" which began in 1964.

The Third Gallery Aya has introduced Eiko Yamazawa, one of the pioneering female photographers in Japan, and Yoshiko Okagami, a contemporary of Imai and known for her photo collage works. A book of her photographs will be published by Akaakasha at the same time as the exhibition.
