I Love Dolls ―The Collection of Sano Art Museum

Sano Art Museum
Finished
From the Sano Art Museum’s doll collection, this exhibition features carefully selected masterpieces including Hina dolls, ancient Japanese dolls such as Gosho (Palace) dolls and Saga wooden dolls, huggable dolls that served as playmates for children, Western antique dolls, and modern artistic dolls. Their rich expressions pierce the heart and make people smile.

In particular, "Oboko-hina" (young dolls), a new addition to the collection, will be exhibited for the first time. These dolls were made by Soho Sakuragi I, known as Bunsuke Omiya (Kinbun) and Shojiro Menya (Menjo), a 12th-generation master craftsman. These hina dolls with plump, childlike faces have a certain elegance and intriguing contrasts between their luxurious costumes and young faces.
