Kaoru Kuwajima
Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present Kaoru Kuwajima's photo exhibition "Awai no Manimani" from August 6 to August 28. This exhibition is a reorganization of the solo exhibition "light, shadow, turn, shadow, light" held in Kyoto and Osaka, which consisted of photographs taken during the documentation of the "Kyoto Modern Ceramic 2019," with a new title. The title, "Awai no Manimani," is composed of two words from an archaic language, "awai (ahahi)" and "manima-ni." Kaoru Kuwajima studied photography in San Francisco, and after returning to Japan, she has been working as a photographer based in the Kansai region. By seeing Japan from the outside, she began to perceive Japan as something new, and the culture of "Japan" changed into something unknown, and Japan became like a foreign country to her. The Japanese language, written in a distant era, has become unreadable to us Japanese without learning it. A small trip to Kyoto, where she had the opportunity to experience the old Japanese culture, brought her a fresh and vivid experience. Please take this opportunity to view Kaoru Kuwajima's first solo exhibition in Tokyo.
