Katy Layman
Margin is pleased to present "Eden 404: Paradise not found," a solo exhibition by Katy Layman.
Layman has been living and working in Japan since 2018 and participating in gallery exhibitions since 2021. Her childhood memories strongly influence her recent work, a mixture of summer days playing outside under a blue sky, playing video and computer games in her childhood home, and attending Catholic mass weekly with her family.
Based on the analogy between the Garden of Eden in Christianity and the Internet, the works in this exhibition have a more personal yet socially diverse range. The exhibition combines computer icons and games from the 1990s and images of flowers and clouds to create a "Digital Eden." On display are seven new paintings created specifically for this exhibition.
