The activities of Gallery Nomart in 2022, started from the solo exhibition of Kohei Nawa’s early drawings. The numerous drawings Nawa created during this early period continue to inspire his work today.
Kohei Nawa, who studied sculpture at Kyoto City University of Arts, has been creating a wide variety of three-dimensional work. Since his debut as an artist, he has also continued to produce two-dimensional work in parallel, of which the physicality and the characteristics of the material itself convey strong visual impact.
The idea of holding this exhibition was born when Nawa unexpectedly discovered a large number of drawings and planning notes that he kept while reorganizing his bedroom when he returned to his parents’ home. Grasping the close connection between these images and Nawa's current work, Satoshi Hayashi, the art director of Gallery Nomart, proposed an exhibition of the drawings. By looking back at the past of the artist, this is the first exhibition that gives a sense of Kohei Nawa’s present and even the future and is perfect for the opening of the new year 2022.
