Artists

Kotaro Ushijima
Kotaro Ushijima (b. 1978, Fukuoka) creates works with "signs or premonitions of stories" by pairing seemingly unrelated subjects and phrases. In the "Scene" series (2003–), one of his major works, he zeros in on places and events from his daily life and connects them with pictoral subjects and words that create tableaus with no real development or ending. His "Intentional Accident" series (2008–) combines a large amount of "objects and words" with embroidered letters, giving viewers the sense that superficially unconnected distances may someday find a link. In his first solo exhibition at Gallery Parc since 2014, Ushijima presents his "Single-Page Stories" joining pictures and words in a Croquis notebook and his new installation “Encounters without Consent” bringing together "objects and words," as he calls them.
