Kozo Haramoto "Subjektive Fotografie Vol. 4"

Studio 35 Minutes

Artists

Kozo Haramoto
Studio 35 Minutes has been focusing on the photographic expression of the 1950s with "Subjektive Fotografie.” So far, it has introduced Kiyoshi Niiyama, Kaoru Oto, and Keiichiro Goto. This exhibition, the fourth in the series, will feature Kozo Haramoto.

Haramoto (1921~2006) worked in Hiroshima after WWII. At that time, there were many Hiroshima-based photographers involved in subjectivist photography, including Kaoru Oto and Koichi Sako. These two and Haramoto were among the few Japanese to participate in the "subjektive fotogarfie" group exhibition series led by Otto Steinert, a German advocate of the subjectivist photography movement.

The appeal of Haramoto's photographs is that they are expressive enough to be understood even without knowing the background of the movement or the era. This exhibition presents new prints of some of the few works left by Haramoto.
