Natsumi Sumita, Mika Okada
Manpukuji Artist-in-Residence Kofukuro program located in Manpukuji Temple (Uji, Kyoto), the head temple of the Obaku school of Zen Buddhism, will hold an exhibition by Natsumi Sumita and Mika Okada. Natsumi Sumita is based in Sapporo, while Mika Okada is based in New York. These two artists with different perspectives and methods of expression met and conducted research at the Manpukuji AIR Kofukuro program, and this exhibition will be the presentation of the second half of their residency.

The artists, who are in touch with their own subconscious history, the historical view of Manpukuji Temple, and the diversity and harmony of nature created by the summer sun-drenched earth, continue to sharpen their minds and sensibilities and challenge themselves to create new forms of expression.

During the exhibition period, artists will take turns staying at the temple to create artworks, which will be exhibited and sold on the spot. Visitors will be able to experience the "work-in-progress" process of artmaking up close and personal while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Mika Okada: August 23 (Tue) - August 30 (Tue)
