Mario Tauchi
Mario Tauchi was born in Saitama, Japan in 1973 and graduated from Temple University in 1998 with a BA in English Literature. Currently based in Tokyo, he continues to create "mandalas" of forms that emerge from his own body. He spent his childhood in France, Australia, and the U.S., where he was exposed to tribal art, psychedelic art, and street art. Since then, he has been active in Tokyo, New York, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and other cities in Japan and abroad. While presenting his works as artworks, he is also active in a wide range of other activities, including live performances with musicians, poets, and performers, murals for stores, and book covers.

By fusing mandalas, a traditional art form with Eastern spirituality, with modern and contemporary Western art such as abstract expressionism, Tauchi creates a new visual language, incorporating the essence of street art, while creating images that resonate across the boundaries of different traditions, cultures, ethnicities, and religions. For Tauchi, drawing is an act of drawing lines and a time to reflect on society, what is important, and what is unnecessary. The oriental cosmology that underlies his work seems to speak quietly to those living in the modern age, urging a fresh look at our society.

During the exhibition, a live performance of painting on the gallery window is planned. Tauchi's performance is a must-see, as it proliferates and transforms without remaining in one form, taking in all the coexistence and opposition, harmony and antagonism in the internal and external worlds, including his state of mind on any given day, the weather, and interactions with people from various backgrounds.
