Artists

Masaya Kushino
Masaya Kushino, based in Kyoto, sublimates "shoes" into sculptural works, skillfully incorporating tradition and technique.

Kushino, who until now has created works based on the concept of nature and other motifs that confront humans, will present work that is strongly influenced by themes such as the progress and history of humans themselves, and views of life and death.

Shoes - symbolize a person's step by step, and are also sculptures that represent our lives as we move forward little by little. Living is a series of memories and at the same time a series of forgetting, and by forgetting, people can release themselves from the gravity of the enormous amount of memories and step forward. However, forgetting memories does not mean losing them forever. Kushino tells us that they gently lurk in the cracks of the walls that are linked to the time we have walked through, and that something triggers those memories to speak to us only when we need them.
