Since its opening in 1993, the museum has collected work by Shoji Hamada, Tatsuzo Shimaoka, Shoji Kamoda, Bernard Leach, and other outstanding Japanese and international artists associated with Mashiko, as well as artists active in the field of modern and contemporary ceramics and who are leading new trends. The museum's collection, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, includes more than 3,000 ceramic works. Last year, the museum acquired work by Shoji Hamada, Shoji Kamoda, Bernard Leach, Yuzo Kondo, Phil Rogers, Takahito Omiyaji, Taizo Kuroda, and other current artists.
