The Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, located in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, is an art museum specializing in modern and contemporary ceramic art. Known affectionately as MoMCA, from the abbreviation of its English name Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, MoMCA will be closed from November 2021 to September 16, 2022 for facility renovation work. During this period, "MoMCA Satellite Museums" are being held at various locations in the prefecture where visitors can enjoy the MoMCA collection, and one of these venues is the Toki City Mino Ceramic Museum.

The Toki City Mino Ceramic Museum introduces new contemporary Japanese ceramics with a focus on objet d'art. The pottery forms have departed from their intended use and traditions. It has been more than half a century since pottery was first produced in Japan. And in this trend, artists associated with Mino have been active in various ways.

In terms of free and innovative forms and designs, such contemporary ceramics have something in common with Oribe, which was born in Toki City 400 years ago. In this exhibition, Oribe ware from the Momoyama period, which is in the collection of the Toki City Mino Ceramic Museum, will also be on display. We wonder what kind of expression the contemporary objects will have when they encounter Oribe of the Momoyama period.
