Artists

Shigeaki Koeda
The works are filled with a mysterious sensation as if the flowers are staring at you. The project titled “Flower, between the eyes” which is the centerpiece of this exhibition has been ongoing since 2003, when the artist was inspired by Ito Jakuchu’s “Hanamaru-zu” and has now been completed one hundred eight works.

Koeda Shigeaki (1953-) has been creating works combining painting and photography since the 1980s, along with paintings and prints. In the works in this exhibition, each of which is named after the flower it depicts, the artist arranges an actual flower on the other side of a transparent glass plate and looks at it through the glass plate to create a painting. The flowers, created with delicate lighting and unique photographic techniques, seem to speak to us quietly, with a mysterious depth and tactile sensation.

In addition to the nine works from his latest series, “Time of the Heart” the exhibition will feature approximately thirty works, both large and small, that give the viewer a sense of the entire project. The exhibition will feature about as this is a grand project spanning approximately twenty years, one way to enjoy the exhibition is to feel the changes that occur over time.
