The Summer Vacation at the Art Museum series offers visitors a chance to experience various ways to enjoy art. The 12th guest is Ryozo Tsumaki (b. 1974), an artist from Yuasa, Wakayama Prefecture. In his works, Tsumaki mainly uses pencil to draw soft shapes that remind us of waves, clouds, beaches, and mountains. Rather than concrete scenes, they seem to be portals to a primordial world that exists beyond the limits of time and place, a somewhere/nowhere. Tsumaki finds connections to this world in the fossils, bones, sea urchin shells, and other objects from his daily walks along the banks of reservoirs and beaches. This exhibition introduces nature as a source of images – a "scenery of the beginning" –found by Mr. Tsumaki. Other objects from the museum's collection are also presented.
