Terracotta Warriors and Ancient China: Heritage from Qin and Han Dynasty

Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
FinishedReservations Prioritized
In 221 B.C.E., Qin Shi Huang (literally meaning “the first Emperor of Qin”) established a mighty unified empire in mainland China for the first time in history, putting an end to the turbulent age that lasted about 550 years during the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period.
The Qin Dynasty was overthrown within just a dozen or so years after the unification, but many relics, including the Terracotta Warriorsdiscovered in the mausoleum of the first Qin Emperor, show its immense national strength. After that, the Han Empire founded by Liu Bang enjoyed one of the golden ages in ancient China. Han had a great impact on the history of later China, Asia, and the world. This exhibition introduces various cultural assets from ancient China, with a focus on many terracotta warriors and horses buried underground more than 2,000 years ago during the Qin and Han Dynasties.
