The French philosopher Henri-Louis Bergson pointed out that the essence of human intelligence is the ability to create tools for the sake of tools or to make changes in the creation of tools (creativity).

In the original sense, pottery is a tool created by human beings according to the essence of their intellect, and it continues to be made in accordance with human activities even today. Contemporary ceramics, in particular, can be seen as "fragments of Homo faber," as they are developed as forms based on the free will of the creator and show a variety of styles that reflect the times.

The Tokai region has abundant natural resources and has closely supported people's lives by producing all kinds of pottery. This exhibition focuses on the theme of human creativity, focusing on the "materials" that form the premise of creation, the "techniques" that have been cultivated, and the "places" that have been formed. From these three perspectives, the exhibition introduces contemporary ceramics from the region and reconsiders the relationship between people and craftsmanship.

This exhibition will be held at the same time as the International Art Festival "Aichi 2022," one of the concepts of which is to rediscover the history, local industry, and traditional culture of which the prefecture is proud, and to promote the ceramic culture of this region both in Japan and abroad through collaborative events.
