Toyomitsu Higa

Toyomitsu Higa took the photos in the collection “Red Bitter Gourd" (published in 2004) between 1970 and 1972, when he was just starting out as a member of the photography club at the University of the Ryukyus. Some 200 of these fragmented images shot from the bus window on the way to school or in the flow of daily life – sometimes captured without a viewfinder – were displayed at a 1972 exhibition held by the university photography club. Tokyo Photographic Art Museum acquired prints of some of these works in 2020. This exhibition will feature over 50 vintage prints.
