Photography has shifted from film to digital, from printing to sharing on social networking sites. With the development of technology, photography has become more and more familiar to many people. In the past, photographers traveled the world in search of new images, but now photos taken by local people are shared in real-time.

So what is the difference between a photograph floating around the Internet and a "photographic work of art"? Victor Sira's Dummy Book is one answer to this question. A dummy book is a collection of photographs edited and designed by the photographer himself, and only one or a limited number of copies are produced and presented as a work of art.

Pictures of Nothing: Bookwork and Photographs" at IG Photo Gallery will be Shira's first solo exhibition in Japan. The theme of the exhibition is "Print-on-demand." Print-on-demand is a simple printing service that has become popular in Japan, and Sira dares to use this everyday service to create his works. This exhibition will present print-on-demand books produced between 2009 and 2022, as well as new books produced with risographs.

The exhibition will also feature prints of the photographs and images used in the books on the walls. These prints are also made using print-on-demand. During the exhibition, there will be online talk sessions and small-group workshops for making dummy books in person. In addition, an online course at Ricoh Photo Academy (Victor Sira, Osamu Kanemura, and Hiroko Komatsu) is planned as a joint project with the exhibition.
