Yukino Ohmura
While a student at art college, Yukino Ohmura created a painting using stationery stickers to depict a night scene. Since then, she has been active as an artist.
In this exhibition, she will be showing about 20 new and old works, including her representative series of urban night views, the "People Series," in which she depicts silhouettes of people highlighted by backlighting, the "AF Series," in which she uses the focus function of the camera to depict landscapes with the focus intentionally shifted to look like paintings, and "just gold," a huge night view that drew attention when it was shown at the Woodwan Museum last year.
She expresses the fragility of human relationships and anxiety about the future that she faced during the Corona disaster, as well as her discomfort with deceptive speech and environment.
Since all of her works are made of round stickers, many people are surprised at how thin and cheap they are when they see them up close. But what is expensive in the first place? Does a thick coating of paint make it look expensive? Isn't the reality in which we live filled with more cheapness than that? This work expresses such a sense of discomfort.
