2023 HPMA Collection Exhibition I: Between Fiction and Reality

Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Susumu Kinoshita, Tomohiro Higashikage, Kazuyo Kinoshita, Shoichi Ida, Minako Nishiyama, Kohei Takahashi, Yasumasa Morimura, Kishio Suga, Lee Ufan, Yuichi Yokoyama, Jim Dine, Joan Miró, Yuki Hayashi et al.
According to the legend of Pygmalion in Greek mythology, Pygmalion prayed to the goddess Aphrodite, who fell in love with a female statue she had sculpted, and the statue became a living woman. As this legend suggests, since ancient times, works of art have been moving between fiction and reality.

Special Feature 1 will introduce the diverse expressions of the museum's modern and contemporary artworks that are located in the space between fiction and reality, such as works that pursue "realism" while at the same time attempting to be "fiction," and vice versa works that are "fiction" but also represent the real world as it is.

This exhibition also provides an opportunity to introduce works that have not been exhibited in the past from the "Collection in Commemoration of the Bequest of Takuji Yamato," which was added in FY2021 (and in some cases in FY2022). This is an opportunity to view the museum's collection with the newly added contemporary artwork.
