The Nobuhiko Utsumi Pictorial Expression Lab, under the guidance of the painter Nobuhiko Utsumi, has believed in the power of art that continues to burn without extinguishing its light amid the repeated tragedies and darkness in human history and has been pursuing its potential.

The title of this exhibition, "Kuzure Hamanko Rashomon 1st Gate," combines the image of "Vagina Dentata," which appears in various myths and folktales around the world as a symbol of female power that castrates the male principle, and the image of Masako, the spiritual leader in the dramatic turning point of medieval Japanese history, the Jokyu Rebellion. It is a surrealistic metaphor that emerged from the combination of these two images. The female genitalia repressed and oppressed by the male principle transform into the apocalyptic worldview of the end of an era depicted in Akutagawa and Kurosawa's "Rashomon." This serves as a multilayered metaphor reflecting all the violence and absurdity prevalent in contemporary society while symbolizing the gender power imbalance. The crumbling Rashomon is reborn into the fanged Kyoshiko, leading the revolution. This exhibition title hints at the emergence of a new generation of art that confronts the difficulties and absurdities of the times to create a new world.
