A Rhapsody for Survival

Gallery Muryow
Finished

Artists

Yohei Kumikawa, Fumiharu Sato, Hiroko Haraguchi, Yuki Chijiwa, Ayana Nakatsuka
In this exhibition, Yohei Kumikawa, who has changed his production method from sculptural materials such as wood and metal due to the discovery of illness, now creates lightweight sculptures using easy-to-handle materials like wire and small pieces of wood. Fumiharu Sato and Hiroko Haraguchi, an artist duo formed in 2011, produce and present installations and performances combining video, sound, and text jointly, based on the premise of being "two people." Yuki Chijiwa, who started creating installations using flat and three-dimensional objects following the number "14" encountered from a certain event, practices life and production bound by "14." Ayana Nakatsuka, while facing personal discomforts occurring in her own life, creates flat, three-dimensional works, and installations, engaging with life and production.

"Rhapsody" refers to a musical composition not bound by a specific format, with various melodies representing ethnic or narrative content, often composed as a medley. While the connection between life and production varies for each artist, I hope that by exploring the space, the exhibition will weave together the influences on each artist's life and production, and the diverse expressions born from them, like a single musical composition.
