AWC (Art Workers Coalition) Archive

Ohara House Katalyzer
Finished
The Art Workers' Coalition (AWC) was a coalition of artists and critics formed in New York in the late 1960s, In a short time, AWC members have taken a variety of actions focused on the complicity of museums and corporations in the Vietnam War, the privileged nature of the museum system, and the rights of artists as workers. While these actions raised many important issues that are still relevant today, at the same time, the AWC itself had to end its activities after a few years due to the persistent racism and sexism that existed within the organization.

This exhibition is a retrospective of AWC's activities, focusing mainly on photographic materials. The hope is that this exhibition will be a good opportunity to discuss not only current art practices, but also art and the social environment regarding race, gender, and war.
