National Ainu Museum
Finished

Artists

Yaeko Batchelor, Hokuto Iboshi, Takeichi Moritake
One hundred years have passed since the publication of Yukie Chisato's "Ainu Shinyo-shu" (The Ainu Songs) (published in 1923), and the preface to the book tells of the situation the Ainu people were in at that time. At that time, there were Ainu people in various parts of Japan who published songs and poems about the realities of their lives. Yaeko Batchelor published "To the Young Utari" (published in 1931), Hokuto Iboshi compiled "Kotan: Hokuto Iboshi's Remains" (published in 1930) after his death, and Takeichi Moritake published "Young Ainu Poetry Collection: The Original Forest" (published in 1937). They are called the three greatest Ainu poets.

The exhibition includes photographs by Gen'ichiro Kakegawa of Batchelor and Moritake in their daily lives, as well as notebooks and folk tools left behind by the Ainu, to reflect on the social conditions and history of the Ainu people through their songs and poetry of the time.
