Artists

Akari Uragami
Born in Tokyo, Akari Uragami is currently based in Kamakura. She explores the human as a living being, creating soft sculptures and paintings by combining fabric and natural materials. Objectively observing sensations derived from her own experiences, she attempts to recognize the human form and interactions from new perspectives by deconstructing and reconstructing the image of humans.

Uragami's vividly colored paintings radiate vibrant vitality, captivating the viewer. When observing an assemblage of various colors, the viewer is guided to see life from Akari Uragami's perspective. Everything, from our bodies and minds to the cities we inhabit, the flow of rivers, and the greenery of trees, is an amalgamation forming a single landscape. She vividly portrays how these entities and relationships are constantly in flux.

In her first solo exhibition at Laid Bug, Akari Uragami will exhibit and sell three-dimensional works, including one large piece, and paintings. With few exceptions, both the paintings and three-dimensional works will be premiering in Japan. The title "Local Ritual" signifies capturing the most familiar field for humans as their bodies and understanding the rituals occurring around them.
