Akihiro Hasegawa
Born in a temple affiliated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism in 1997, Akihiro Hasegawa became a Buddhist priest in 2009. In 2016, he entered the Tokyo University of the Arts and is currently enrolled in its graduate program for design.

Hasegawa's paintings use acrylic board as support, on which highly saturated paints are placed on both the front and back sides, giving them unique color, depth, and transparency. LCD screens use the three primary colors of light to create each color through a filter, and Hasegawa also uses this same principle to create his paintings. The experience of viewing these works is similar to that of looking at a digital monitor.

This exhibition, entitled "Luminescence," features new works from his “Halation" series, in which he creates digital screens using paints in the three primary colors of light. These works highlight the boundary between digital and analog.
