Akiko Iijima
Akiko Iijima approaches the surrounding environment through bodily sensations from various perspectives.

This consciousness is directed towards the state before Iijima herself engages as an artist, and towards arbitrary natural environments, and because she is conscious of such situations, a conscious output of "making into a work ≒ leaving behind" has been chosen. Placing these extremely modest actions in specific locations and visualizing subtle changes generated/disappearing with time are approaches that starkly contrast with the monumental sculptural consciousness that strives to preserve existence as a work strongly.

Similarly, this is evident in the selection of materials. For example, "dust" is a material often used in Iijima's works, but the artist herself says, "The material of dust is worthless on one hand, but it is eloquent as a trace." The perspective of perceiving matter in a multifaceted way is evident there, and in creating "a sense of discomfort through placement," a consistent choice of materials with a high affinity for capturing exhibition spaces provisionally can be observed.

This time, Iijima will visit the traces of a custom called "Ryobyo-sei" in some areas of Osaka Prefecture, and attempt to overlay the exhibition space at Nest with expressions based on the experiences and customs gained there. Research elements such as temporarily burying bodies (i.e., "provisionally") and the placeness accompanied by thinness will be raised in the exhibition environment at Nest using ephemeral materials.

Furthermore, in line with its content, this exhibition will be held during daylight hours, with the opening corresponding to sunrise and the closing to sunset, allowing it to take place in natural light. Such a choice of format in the exhibition also reflects Iijima's questioning of the intensity of permanence, and visitors can experience the artwork uniquely at Nest, which is difficult to achieve in galleries or museums.
