Alana Wilson
Alana Wilson is a New Zealand artist based in Sydney, Australia, where she conducts her creative work. Primarily working with ceramics, she operates studios in Sydney and also travels around the world for research and artistic endeavors.

Wlison's work, rooted in the local landscapes and ethnic identity, as well as human activities and humanism associated with relics and excavated artifacts, reflects extensive research into the relationship between nature and humanity. These works, created through repeated experiments with glazing and firing techniques, imply a temporal connection between ancient traces and contemporary society, raising questions about the relationship between humans and nature as the environment continues to be destroyed.

Drawing elements from various regions and historical periods, Wilson constructs her unique artistic world through experimental glazing and firing processes. While many of her works borrow the form of vessels, they transcend the confines of traditional ceramics and are not primarily intended for practical use. By using natural materials linked to the land and landscape and showcasing the chemical transformations of these materials during pottery-making and firing, Wilson records both human actions and the behaviors of nature in her artworks.

In this exhibition, Wilson presents approximately 20 new pieces created based on her research on decolonization through the revitalization of Indigenous traditions in Australia, a project she has been engaged in since 2020. These artworks serve as an ongoing inquiry into the present-day reality of invasion, destruction, and lost harmony, filled with love and respect for the Earth itself.

On the opening day, April 13th (Saturday) from 4:00 PM, there will be an artist talk by Alana Wilson (with Japanese interpretation) at Gallery Crossing.
