Alex Kanevsky
Alex Kanevsky was first introduced in a group exhibition hosted by 104Galerie in 2022. This inaugural solo exhibition in Japan will showcase 10 of his latest paintings.

The exhibition title "The Battle of Shahbarghan" refers to a civil war that is said to have occurred in the Mughal region of India in 1646. To this day, there are no known historical facts about this battle, and only a single beautiful Mughal painting remains at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kanevsky says that the saying "Everyone we meet is fighting a battle unknown to us" aptly represents our condition. The 10 works comprising this exhibition are unrelated to each other and depict different subjects. Each piece contains intricacies and struggles that are not apparent from the outside.

Some of the works in this exhibition are based on Mughal paintings depicting the Battle of Shahbarghan. Kanevsky's works, like the small Mughal paintings quietly placed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, are likely to be much more captivating than the background or story of the artwork itself.
