Alphonse Mucha "Moravian Dream!"

Sakai Alphonse Mucha Museum (Sakai City Cultural Hall)
Finished

Artists

Alphonse Mucha, Yumi Hayashi
Alphonse Mucha is an artist from Moravia, now part of the Czech Republic.

Mucha's posters captivated Paris at the end of the 19th century, and in Japan his association with France is stronger than that of his home country.

This exhibition follows Mucha as he realizes his grand dream of "contributing to the unity of the Czech and Slavic peoples through the power of art," while working in Paris. While searching for fragments of his dream scattered throughout his work, the exhibition also takes a closer look at Mucha's feelings toward what is today the Czech Republic.

Furthermore, Mucha's dream and the dream of a Japanese artist in Prague overlap this time. Yumi Hayashi, a puppet artist based in Prague, Czech Republic, the land of puppetry, has created a new work for this exhibition.
