Archizines Fair 2024

Centre for Co -Architecture Kyoto

The Archizines Fair 2024 is the first Zine Fair in Japan that gathers self-published books and zines related to architecture, urbanism, and city planning.

For architecture, which is rooted in the land and cannot move, media such as magazines and books have played an important role in developing architectural expression and transmitting architects' concepts. Since 2000, internet media has emerged, leading to the instantaneous dissemination of architects' works and news worldwide. However, traditional magazines have been discontinuing publication, and the mainstream of architectural media is shifting from print to the web. Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been growing interest in meticulously crafted books published by architectural firms themselves and in zines that cover unique and original themes by architects and media professionals. These media often address emerging themes that are ignored by market-driven publishing projects and feature carefully designed publications. In contrast to the long time taken to create buildings, these publications, produced with spontaneity and a sense of speed, vividly capture the thoughts and ideas of the authors/architects at that moment.

The Archizines Fair 2024 brings together over 60 exhibitors from across the country and nearly 100 zines, offering a glimpse into the current diversification of architecture and urbanism in Japan. This fair is the only one in Japan specializing in architecture and urbanism, providing a platform for showcasing self-published works in this field.
