The "Ashigei" will be held for the third time, following last year, at the foot of the Shiretoko Peninsula, which rises into the Sea of Okhotsk, in the former town hall building (former library) of Shari-cho, where "participatory projects" where local people and memories come together, "performances" using sound and physical expression, and "exhibitions" by artists from various fields of expression will be held in an integrated manner. This art project aims to rediscover local culture and create new values.

Shiretoko, a World Natural Heritage site, is renowned for its natural beauty, but its cultural significance is lesser known. The region has a rich history, including the Okhotsk culture of ocean fishing and hunting, Ainu traditions, and pioneering history, all shaped by its harsh and majestic climate.

The title of the festival is derived from Shari, the Ainu word for "reed field," and is named in the hope of fostering a "field of imagination" of art while floundering through the field of "reeds," which has multiple meanings.
