Artists

Asuka Miyata
Asuka Miyata has been creating works of art using handicrafts and building community in the region. Major examples include the "Minatomachi Handicraft Club" in Minato Ward, Nagoya, and the "Arimatsu Handicraft Club" at the International Art Festival Aichi 2022. Both were attempts to unravel the state of society and handicraft culture today through the exchange, succession and handing down of skills specific to handicraft culture.

The "Sendamachi Handicraft Club," the first of its kind in Hiroshima, aims to create a place where those who are good at handicrafts and those who want to learn can meet through exchanges among people of different generations and backgrounds during the project period.

During the exhibition period, the artist will also stay in Hiroshima City and hold the "Sendamachi Handicraft Club" while visiting the gallery. The archives of the workshops and the artist's works will also be on display, as well as workshops on knitting photographs on a home-use knitting machine and talk events.

*When the "Sendamachi Handicraft Club" is not open, visitors can still view the exhibited works in the space and the archived works of the handicraft clubs that have been held in various regions.
