Ayaki Nakamaru consistently creates works on the theme of "I (me)". From things that come from within herself to changes in her daily life to things she receives from her family and external environment, the way she confronts herself and incorporates both the good and the bad into her work is so pure and frank in this day and age that it is refreshingly surprising.
The work, created in a wide variety of media including video, photography, and interactive communication, ranges from the sacred to the fetishistic and seems to express the artist's subtle emotional fluctuations. The expression that emerges from the "individual" is never self-contained but invites the "other" (the viewer) to view the work and encourages dialogue through the work. Through Nakamaru's works, viewers will be reminded of the relationship between themselves and others.
