Chen Hsian-Jung is a ceramic artist based in Taipei.
Drawing inspiration from everyday life and refining themes and ideas through observation, Chen creates geometric shapes and bright colors, resulting in forms that appear familiar yet unfamiliar. His work resonates with the shared experiences and derived cultures of common life.
In his recent works, Chen focuses on the relationship between "handmade" and "industrialization." By adjusting the workflow and erasing the handmade feel, he explores the pursuit of order and perfection, as well as the points of contact and disconnection between the two. Simultaneously, he intentionally blurs the boundaries between art and functionality, interrupting people's linear thinking and prompting them to reconsider their relationship with objects.
