"Ichi-seki ni tori (one stone, two birds)", which forms the axis of this exhibition, is a Japanese translation of the English idiom "killing two birds with one stone." Although the phrase may sound like a very lucrative phrase, the original one contains the word of "kill." In translation, the descriptive disquiet falls out of the sentence and becomes a pictorial combination of numbers and hieroglyphs, maybe a landscape painting. The suburb of Toride doesn't catch (or kill) birds. The words will connect a new picture when they describe what kinds of "birds" can be found here and what types of "stones" can be used as tools.
