Chisato Tatsumi
Medel Gallery Shu is pleased to present “Sugar High,” a solo exhibition by Chisato Tatsumi from October 11 to October 23.

“The girls depicted by Tatsumi, with their big eyes looking straight at us, are full of pop and vitality, and their strength comes from their innocence. The girls' figures also convey courage and hope, with a strong will to face difficulties.”

This exhibition focuses on the strength and brilliance of the girls by Tatsumi.
Through his artwork, Tatsumi aims to inspire viewers with energy and courage. The girls depicted by Tatsumi sparkle and shine like sugar, radiating a strong presence. Their figures overflow with vitality and attract the viewer's attention.
The girls' eyes are filled with the will to face difficulties, and their posture conveys courage and hope. The innocence and naivete of the girls can also be felt, and their smiles express their appreciation for the beauty of the world.

On the other hand, the title of this exhibition, “Sugar High,” suggests a kind of manic state, a cynical perspective on the huge whitewash of positivity and the excessive glorification of the value of youth and the supremacy of appearance that is implied by the iconic image of “cute” girls. The motifs that fill the background also suggest this.
The charm of Tatsumi's work can be said to lie in the joy of the girls' expressions, which are expressed freely, as well as the coexistence of her point of view.

Through the girls, this exhibition expresses the power to overcome the harshness of life and respect for beauty. Viewers will feel the power of positive life and attachment to the world from these works and experience the uplifting feeling of “Suger High” as Tatsumi wishes.
Tatsumi's style, which fills the canvas with motifs, is also a highlight of her fine-tuned technique. Please come and see the exhibition.
