Hong Kong-based artist Colbie Fung Ho-pui, with the support of the Soundpocket program that assists artists working in sound art, has been selected as the resident artist for the 42nd term at Art Center Ongoing in Tokyo, where they will engage in a one-month stay for creative production.

This exhibition revolves around the theme of "geomagnetism," a mythical presence that appears in Fung's video work "Dragonfly Eyes." In the video, geomagnetism is depicted not only as the foundation shaping the Earth's environment, including weather, latitude, and electromagnetic conditions but also as a force capable of resurrecting memories in the form of sound and imagery.

When sound is generated, can it be perceived as something tangible? Fung suggests that geomagnetism, which can revive memories, might serve as the only method to preserve all memories as sound. This inquiry prompted Fung to visit broadcasting stations in both Hong Kong and Tokyo to listen to sounds emitted from magnets.

Through the concept of geomagnetism expressed in this exhibition, Fung hopes to spark more interest in listening to sound among people. The artist believes that when people become more sensitive, their senses expand, and the world broadens. While it remains uncertain whether this research project will lead to precise scientific discoveries, Fung suggests that all the outcomes gained from listening to sound might not be conclusive results but rather parts of a process that could lead to the discovery of unknown entities.
