The Iwate Prefectural Museum of Art collects works by artists associated with Iwate from the Meiji era to the present day, while changing exhibitions four times a year, it showcases collections in three rooms: the permanent exhibition room, the Yorozu Tetsugoro Exhibition Room, and the Shunsuke Matsumoto and Yasutake Funakoshi Exhibition Room.

This season, under the theme "Forms of Animals," we introduce works with animals as subjects that are familiar and close to us. In the realm of art, many works are inspired by animals. These include pieces that focus on interesting poses, capture a moment of dynamism, or imbue the subject's form with poetic sentiment. The expressions vary widely, reflecting the diverse intentions of the creators. Whether it's realistic depictions or modern, simplified forms, each artwork captures the essence of its subject beautifully, underpinned by the artist's keen insight into animals and a warm regard for living beings.

Furthermore, in remembrance of the sculptor Yasutake Funakoshi, who passed away this March, a memorial exhibition corner will be set up to display his wood carvings, drawings, and print works.
