Collection Exhibition I - Nice to Meet You, Hello.

Kure Municipal Museum of Art
Finished
Since its opening in 1982, the Kure City Art Museum has been collecting artworks from the modern and contemporary periods as well as works related to Kure City. The collection, formed from a diverse range of genres, now exceeds 1,400 pieces.

This exhibition will introduce approximately 40 works, focusing on those donated to the museum between the fiscal years 2022 and 2023. Shiko Munakata's "Fish" is a delightful piece with a free and bold brushwork, despite its small size. Hiroaki Wakayama, based in Hiroshima, has constructed his unique world by combining various materials such as copper, stainless steel, and wood to express semi-three-dimensional psychological landscapes of characters.

In addition to artists with connections to Kure City such as Mieko Masui, Yaozo Sorano, Shigeo Okabe, Tadayoshi Miyoshi, and Toshihiro Kubo, this exhibition will also showcase the works of contemporary artist Yutaka Hatta, originally from Fukui Prefecture, who donated 10 pieces, as well as newly acquired works by Georges Rouault, Ryuzaburo Umehara, and Denchu Hirakushi.
