Collection Special Exhibition III Western Painting - Selected Masterpieces

Yonago City Museum of Art
Finished
The Yonago City Museum of Art opened on June 17, 1983, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, the museum will introduce the history of its 40 years of art collection divided into four periods: Part I - Photography, Part II - Printmaking, Part III - Western Painting, and Part IV - Japanese Painting, Calligraphy, Crafts, and Sculpture.

In Part III, the exhibition will feature carefully selected masterpieces, including works by local artists who contributed to the revival, dissemination, and improvement of the regional artistic and cultural heritage. Among them is Katsuta Koda (1885–1946), one of the founders of the "Fumotojin-kai," formed with the hope of revitalizing and promoting the local arts and culture, who studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). Also featured is Hyo Sasaka (1901–1977), a native of Yonago City, who served as a judge, councilor, and advisor for the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten). The exhibition will showcase their works, along with other pieces inspired by the rich local nature and scenery.
