Artists

Yojiro Imasaka
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1983, Yojiro Imasaka moved to the U.S. in 2007 and has been based in New York ever since.

Imasaka's works, which reflect changes in climate and landscape over time as he observes them in natural settings around the world, are sometimes blurred or partially peeling due to the use of a classic wet plate* photographic technique.

This photographic technique records the shadows of people and other objects that pass in front of the camera during the shooting process as hazy images. Imasaka says that these images "are a contrast between nature and humans, which are permanently there, and remind us of the future image of a post-human landscape.

This exhibition commemorates the publication of "Wet Land," Imasaka's first book of works in Japan, and features original artwork including works never before shown in Japan, glass negatives used in his eponymous Wet Land series, which are also included in the book, large-scale photographic works created from the negatives, and a new attempt at an aluminum installation.

In addition, as a new experiment, an installation using aluminum will be exhibited. The walls and floor of the entire exhibition space will be covered with fabrications to express the world view of the Wet Land series. In conjunction with the exhibition, a special edition of the book will be on sale from October 20 (Fri.) with a different original print for each work.
