Compare and Show! The Charm of Japanese Paintings/Takasaki City Tower Museum of Art

Takasaki Tower Museum of Art
Finished
There are favorite motifs in Japanese painting, but even the same subject matter is perceived and expressed differently in different periods and by different painters. To cite one example, the plum tree, which blooms early in the spring, is combined with the pine tree and bamboo to form the "pine, bamboo, and plum" or the "three friends of spring and cold” auspicious motifs. Even when the same flower is depicted, there is more than one subject matter.

This exhibition introduces the "number one highlights" in terms of the theme the artist intended to depict and the characteristics of the work while comparing the various expressions of the same motif to deeply explore the appeal of the works in the collection.
