Crafcult
Crafcult is a creative unit led by Hiroki Ito, the 8th generation of Ito Gonjiro Shoten, a lantern shop established 200 years ago in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. In their new series "Kuumon," they reinterpreted "Kamon," which is a coat of arms representing Japanese households, by enshrining it in a "sacred altar" and combining it with pop culture. By presenting the Kamon, which has been inherited by the Japanese people for a long time but has become less prominent in modern times, in a catchy way, they raise questions about the representation of identity in contemporary society. This exhibition is the fifth installment of "The Foundry," a series showcasing young artists who explore the fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary art.
