Craft Competition in Takaoka Tokyo Exhibition

Good Design Marunouchi
Starts 12/18
The Takaoka Craft Competition, Japan's largest craft competition, was established in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture in 1986 and is now celebrating its 37th edition. The “Takaoka Craft Competition Tokyo Exhibition” will showcase the Grand Prix winner, award-winning pieces, and a selection of other winning entries.

This Tokyo exhibition, held for the first time in several years, will showcase works selected from approximately 450 entries submitted this year, following the competition's transition to a biennial format. It will also feature displays and introductions to the history of crafts and craft products from Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. From December 18th to 21st, artisans will demonstrate two traditional craft techniques from Takaoka City: “Makie” (decorating lacquerware with mother-of-pearl and eggshell inlay) and “Chokin” (metal engraving using chisels and hammers).
