Creatures within Ukiyo-e

Hirano Museum
Finished
A wide variety of living creatures appear in Ukiyo-e. These include pet animals such as dogs and cats, cows and horses essential for travel and transportation, lucky charms such as cranes and turtles,
rare imported elephants and leopards, and even creatures from stories and folklore. Ukiyoe artists have vividly depicted these creatures and they continue to delight us to this day.

This exhibition will feature 88 Ukiyo-e paintings of creatures from the late Edo to Meiji periods.
