Cultural Experience at the Western-style Mansion, Former Furukawa Residence: Leisurely Ukiyo-e Workshop with Tea Set

Otani Museum of Art
FinishedReservation Required
The Former Furukawa Residence, situated within the nationally designated scenic Furukawa Garden, is an architectural gem designed by J. Conder and dates back to 1917 during the Taisho era, preserving its original appearance.

In this workshop, held in the "2nd Floor Master Bedroom" normally accessible only through guided tours of the Former Furukawa Residence, participants will enjoy a special tea set while engaging in a Ukiyo-e viewing session led by our museum curator. The workshop is limited to 15 participants per session.

The theme of the workshop is "Ukiyo-e," a form of Japanese art that has captivated not only domestic audiences but also influenced Western artists significantly. Participants will leisurely and enjoyably learn about the points of appreciation and gain knowledge about Ukiyo-e, promising to enhance their enjoyment of Ukiyo-e artworks even further.

Alongside explanations of the artworks, attendees will have the opportunity to view actual Ukiyo-e prints up close, making this workshop suitable for both Ukiyo-e enthusiasts and those with a casual interest in art and Japanese culture.

*This workshop will also be held on June 29 with the same content.
