Daisuke Ida

Daisuke Ida, a sculptor exploring various media, including sculpture, video, and 3DCG, aims to visualize unseen structures of contemporary society. Since 2016, consistently creating "Photo Sculpture" using internet-sourced anonymous images, addressing issues like wealth inequality and productivity emphasis. The exhibition, titled "Synoptes," explores post-COVID changes in corporeality and perspective, blending virtual and real, and themes related to a surveillance society. The title of the exhibition, "Synoptes," is a coined term that combines the mythological giant with multiple eyes, "Argus Panoptes," from Greek mythology, and the concept of "Synopticon" proposed by Norwegian sociologist Thomas Mathiesen. Drawing inspiration from the mythical giant with multiple eyes, which also gave rise to the term "Panopticon," referring to an 18th-century surveillance system, Ida sculpts our contemporary existence.
