Edo Painting - Jakuchu / Hokusai / Edo Rinpa

Hosomi Museum
Finished
Since its opening in Okazaki, Kyoto in 1998, the Hosomi Museum has presented exhibitions from a variety of perspectives, focusing on the Hosomi family's collection of Japanese art. To commemorate the museum's 25th anniversary, this exhibition presents a selection of the diverse collections that the collectors have diligently pursued, trusting in their sense of beauty.

This first commemorative features Edo paintings collected by Minoru Hosomi (1922-2006), former president of the Hosomi Art Foundation) and his wife Yuko, the current president of the foundation.

The exhibition will feature the couple's favorites, including unique works by Jakuchu Ito, beautiful paintings by Hokusai Katsushika, and refined Edo Rimpa school works by Hoitsu Sakai, all of which they collected with great foresight.

The couple has enjoyed displaying their collected works of art in their own home, and have also used them for entertaining guests. The artwork, which transcended time periods and genres and was inspired by the seasons, themes, and tastes of their guests, colored the space in harmony with each other. The exhibition also offers an opportunity to enjoy the unique beauty of the Hosomi family.
